Emergency service workers face a higher risk of trauma
Due to the nature of their jobs, emergency workers—paramedics, firefighters and police—are much more likely to experience traumatic events. As a result, they are about twice as likely as the general population to develop mental health challenges. In Australia, it's estimated that 1 in 10 of the more than 370,000 emergency service workers will develop PTSD due to critical incidents they’ve faced on the job. For those on the front lines, facing traumatic situations might be part of the job — but that doesn't make it easy. All you need to access to treatment is a referral letter from your GP requesting treatment for PTSD and an approval email from your Case Manager. Forward these to reception@illawarratraumaclinic.au |
